Getting Married Down South?
(Yes this is a totally shameless plug to book more weddings during the winter months in nice warm countries. 100% shameless, let's make this happen! I'm excited!)
Over the last few years, I just didn't have time to accept many destination weddings. So for the inquiries that I did get, I had to refuse. The truth now is, I am ready, able and dying to get back down there for some weddings! Are you a local bride planning on heading south? Did you want more than just some ceremony photos? Then have a read...
I was married in Punta Cana and it was amazing, a week long celebration surrounded by family and friends in a beautiful location. What more could you ask for?
Hiring a photographer that you know, or someone that is local to where you live has so many benefits and it doesn't cost as much as you think! The first big benefit is that you will end up with way more coverage and many more photos than you would with a "package" photographer from a resort that will basically only shoot your ceremony and a few other shots.
Typically during a destination wedding we shoot nearly the entire time we are there. When the guys go on an excursion, girls having a girls night, family night, fun by the pool, suppers, an off resort engagement session, the entire wedding day and even a sunrise session the morning after the wedding (or two days later, lol)...
We do this, because we love photography. It is exciting to us!
Telling the story of your experience is the goal and your wedding week isn't just your ceremony, it is so much more. After all, that is the reason you are choosing to have a destination wedding, isn't it?
Helen and I had the amazing Alex and Kate MacAulay come with us and photograph our week, they covered everything and we are so happy that we made that decision. We have photos from the time we were boarding the plane in Halifax and all the way through the week. I can honestly say it was the best decision we have made for our wedding, besides actually getting married.
So, if you are planning on flying "down south" for your wedding, or know someone in the beginning stages, shoot me a message and let's chat about it. I am itching to get back down there and have some fun! My first destination wedding was 10 years ago in Punta Cana, I loved it so much that we had our wedding on the same resort.
I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
