Shelley, The Girls and what I don't shoot...

Over the past year and a half I made a pretty big decision. I decided not to be a general photographer anymore. I wanted to focus on basically two types of photography....weddings and portraits (mainly individual portraiture, high school seniors, business portraits, etc). This is how I started.

A general photographer is someone who basically shoots everything and anything. I was that guy, but had to make a decision, because I was burning out and losing my interest. I no longer wanted to shoot babies, children, groups of families, events, dogs, cats, cars, etc. It just wasn't me anymore. Having said that, there isn't anything wrong with being a photographer that does everything, and my hat goes off to those that do. Some photographers I know are so impressive, they are great at it all.

I have nothing against it, but for me I would rather just focus on what I very much enjoyed and spend more time learning and perfecting that aspect, a total focus was my plan. Also, I feel there are so many other photographers who are much better than I am at certain things. Take Wendy McElmon for example, if you are expecting or are in the market for child and newborn photos, she is your girl! I gladly send all inquires her way because I know you will be well taken care of and happy with her work. She LOVES what she does, and it shows.

So, that was my big switch and honestly it has worked wonders for me with my creativity and drive to produce the best possible work I can. It did come with some drawbacks, some people get really upset when I tell them I no longer photograph children and families. But, it is what it is and there are more than enough photographers around here to help you out. I do still shoot for my past clients and wedding clients, this is something I will always do....so all you families that I see every summer, don't flip out!

Anyway, fast forward to this week when I headed out to Louisbourg with Shelly and these two beauties. Years ago I shot Kelsey's Grad photos, it is so unique getting to meet up with past clients again. I was joking that soon I will be shooting some of the high school girls weddings, but in reality...I have already been chatting with some of them about their wedding! I guess I'm getting old...

On to the photos already! Right...This was a great session, it was 23 degrees in Sydney and 9 in Louisbourg, not sure why that matters but we are Cape Bretoners and all we ever really talk about is the weather and how high gas prices are...so...there ya go! The location was Shelley's idea, and I won't ever disagree with Louisbourg.
